LinkRunner AT is a rugged, fast, copper & fiber ethernet network connectivity tester designed for frontline technicians

Conceptual

I took inspiration from rugged walkie-talkies and flip phones, which have a history of isolating the antenna for optimal signal strength. Meeting critical antenna spacing resulted in a taller "forehead."

I incorporated a negative space design element inspired by Fluke's clamp meters to minimize the visual mass.

Unfortunately, the void had to be filled in, as concerns with EMI and signal attenuation led us to err on the side of caution

Prototyping

These prototypes explored options for visually representing network strength and availability and found more precise ways to improve the interaction between the keypad and display GUI.
